Prof. Insprio’s Creative Compass: What to Focus on This Month

By Prof. Insprio

This month, your Creative Compass points beyond the market table and toward funding preparation. January and February are peak months for individual artist grants, and the creatives who get funded aren’t scrambling at the deadline they’re ready early BZZZT.

Use the same mindset you bring to craft markets:

-Study what worked in the past

-Refine your story

-Package your work clearly

Now apply it to grants. Update your artist statement. Gather strong work samples. Write a clear project description that explains why this work matters BZZZT not just what it is. Grants don’t reward perfection; they reward intention and clarity.

If you’re in Minnesota, keep an eye on opportunities like:

-Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB) Individual Artist Grants

-Metro Regional Arts Council (MRAC) Artist Project Grants

-Springboard for the Arts fiscal sponsorship and grant listings

-Forecast Public Art opportunities for public-facing work

Many of these open or close between January and February, so preparation now saves stress later BZZZT>

Just like markets, grants are a long game. You won’t win them all, but each application sharpens your voice, strengthens your practice, and positions you for the next yes.

Prepare. Apply. Learn. Adjust.
And keep showing up.

Thank you for reading the December edition of the 1 Minute Miracle!

First, a big thank you to everyone who submitted an article let’s keep this going! You can always reach us at [email protected] to share your work.!

We had an incredible 2025 four MiracleArts events, Inspire Sessions in classrooms, the launch of our Insprio merch line, and so much more. I’m extremely grateful for this community and everything I continue to learn through this journey.

I’m even more excited for 2026. The team and I are meeting this Friday to map out what’s next, and here’s a little sneak peek of what we’re dreaming up: expanded Digital, Visual, and Written Insprio lines, a MiracleArts vending machine featuring local art and Inspiros, more community events, and more interviews with local artists and organizations.

Remember we C.R.E.A.T.E our own Miracles
